A tragic head-on collision on Sunday evening claimed the lives of two drivers and left a passenger hospitalized. The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on FM 136 near Texas 188, between Gregory and Bayside, Texas. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the deadly crash.
Details of the Incident
According to the Texas Highway Patrol, the collision involved a 2025 Nissan Altima driven by 45-year-old Richard Rodeman from Corpus Christi and a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 36-year-old Christopher Lepine of Portland. The crash happened when Rodeman’s Altima crossed the center line, entering the northbound lane of FM 136.
What Happened?
Officials stated that Lepine, driving the Equinox, attempted to avoid the oncoming Altima by veering left. Unfortunately, the Altima struck the front end of the Equinox. The collision caused severe damage to both vehicles. The Altima spun off the road and came to rest on a grassy shoulder, while the Equinox remained in the northbound lane after spinning out.
Loss of Lives
Both Rodeman and Lepine had to be extracted from their vehicles due to the extensive damage caused by the crash. Tragically, both were pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Daniel Garza.
Injuries and Hospitalization
A passenger in the Equinox, identified as Rada, sustained serious injuries. Rada was transported by ambulance to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi for treatment. Their condition remains unknown.
